Abstract

This article aims to understand the meanings of the affective-sexual practices of users of pre-exposure prophylaxis to acquired immunodeficiency virus (PrEP) to the acquired immunodeficiency virus - HIV under the risks of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We adopt the perspective of social psychology, discursive practices and the production of meaning as a theoretical-methodological reference and the concept of vulnerability in public health. We used the snowball method and interviewed 10 Gay, Bisexual and other Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), in Barcelona-Spain. We conclude that the affective-sexual life did not change with the use of PrEP, but it dissipated feelings such as fear, anxiety and guilt that the interviewees felt when living their sexualities under the homophobic culture. The risk of STIs does not threaten them, they understand that they are treatable and that the moral vision and biomedical approaches to such infections are not going to protect them from new stigmas and prejudices, already present in other phases of the HIV pandemic.
